Delicious hush puppies go perfect with seafood, barbeque or by theirself. Aunt Sandy's hush puppies are super easy to make having only 5 ingredients. They have a slightly sweet and savory flavor that pairs well with a variety of dishes. One of my personal favorite is hush puppies and coleslaw - what a combination. The cool and creamy coleslaw provides a refreshing contrast to the warm and crispy hush puppies.

Ingredients

• 2 cup cornmeal mix
• 1 cup self-rising flour
• 1 large egg, beaten
• 1 cup milk
• 1½ cups onion, chopped
• 1 tps onion powder
• Oil (canola or peanut) for frying.

Directions

1. Mix dry ingredients: cornmeal mix, flour, and onion powder.
2. In a separate bowl mix wet ingredients: egg and milk.
3. Combine wet and dry ingredients and onion. Stir mixture and make sure batter is thick.
4. Heat oil in a fryer or deep pot to 350°F. Maintain a constant oil temperature while frying.
5. Take a tablespoon of batter and using another tablespoon to gently push the batter off into the hot oil.
6. 3-4 hush puppies can be cooked at a time, but don't crowd the fryer. Watch oil temperature as you add batter.
7. Cook 3-5 minutes until both sides (by rotating hush puppy) are golden brown.
8. Drain on paper towels.
9. Serve while warm.
