Southern Living's Million Dollar Pound Cake is a Classic and one of Aunt Sandy's favorite cakes. This cake is so rich and dense with a classic vanilla - almond flavor. The flavor and the texture are unforgettable. Just one taste and you'll understand why it's called a Million Dollar Pound Cake and always a crowd-pleaser.

Cake Ingredients

• 1 pound (4 sticks) butter, room temperature
• 3 cups sugar
• 6 large eggs, room temperature
• 4 cups all-purpose sifted flour
• ¾ cup milk
• 1 teaspoon almond extract
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Cake Directions

1. Set out the butter and eggs long enough ahead of time (30 minutes to an hour) to reach room temperature.
2. Preheat oven to 300°F (149°C).
3. Grease completely tube pan with shortening or butter. Lightly coat greased surfaces with flour. (2 piece tube pan is preferable but can be made in a 1 piece tube pan which my mother-in-law did for years.)
4. Beat butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and becoming a lighter yellow color. Depending on the power of your mixer this will take 1 to 7 minutes. (This is a very important step to incorporate air into the butter so the cake will rise.)
5. Add sugar.
6. Add eggs, 1 at a time.
7. On low speed, alternately add flour then milk - begin with flour and end with flour.
8. Add extracts.
9. Pour batter into prepared 10-inch tube pan.
10. Bake at 300°F for 1 hour and 40 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center of cake comes out clean.
11. Cool in pan on a wire rack 30 minutes.
12. Remove cake from pan, and cool completely on a wire rack.
