Chocolate Pie Topped with Whipped Cream

Learn how to make a new family favorite, Aunt Sandy’s Chocolate Pie with homemade whipped cream. You’ll need a pre-baked 9-inch pie crust. The filling consists of cocoa, cornstarch, sugar, salt, milk, egg yolks and vanilla. This will make a smooth, silky, chocolate filling.

Pie Ingredients

• 1 deep dish pie shell 9 inch
• ½ cup cocoa
• ¼ cup cornstarch
• 1½ cup sugar
• ¼ teaspoon salt
• 2 cups milk
• 3 egg yolks
• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Whipped Cream Ingredients

• 1½ cup heavy whipping cream
• ½ teaspoon powdered sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Pie Directions

1. Bake pie crust according to the directions on the label.
2. Mix dry ingredients cocoa, cornstarch (gluten-free), sugar, and salt in a bowl.
3. Mix wet ingredients milk, beaten egg yolks, and vanilla in a sauce pan over medium to medium-high heat.
4. Stir dry ingredients into wet mixture.
5. Cook until thick like pudding and whisk it until smooth (5-10 minutes or until thickened). Watch mixture closely and keep whisking while pan is over heat.
6. Pour mixture into pre-baked pie shell.
7. Let pie cool to room temperature.
8. Place pie in the fridge for at least 4 hours. Overnight is best if possible.

Whipped Cream Directions

1. Chill metal mixing bowl and whisk (or beaters) in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
2. Add cream and vanilla to the chill mixing bowl and beat cream on low speed to start.
3. Increase mixer speed to medium and beat for 1 minute.
4. Increase mixer speed to high and start adding the sugar.
5. Beat mixture on high for about 1 minute or till stiff peaks form.
6. Add Whipped cream to your favorite chilled pie before serving.
