Homemade Cornbread for Dressing

Cornbread dressing is known for its savory and slightly sweet flavor, and goes so well with so many meats like turkey or chicken. Fresh homemade cornbread is where you start. Cornbread by itself will compliment any meal. Three ingredients is all you need to make some homemade cornbread.

Ingredients

• 3 cups self-rising corn meal mix (number of cups depends on the size or number of your pan(s) used for making dressing)
• 2 egg, beaten
• 2 cups milk (regular milk for cornbread dressing; buttermilk for cornbread to eat)

Directions

1. Preheat oven 350º
2. Grease baking pan with cooking spray or shortening. (For cornbread dressing use a 13 x 9 x 2 inch aluminum pan or baking dish; for cornbread to eat as a bread use a cast iron skillet. The skillet will give more of a crust which we don't want in our cornbread dressing.)
3. Mix corn meal, eggs, and 1½ cups of milk to start. Add the remaining ½ cup of milk if needed.
4. Pour mixture into greased pan. Level mixture in pan.
5. Bake at 350º for 30 minutes until light golden on top, and a cake tester (sharp knife or toothpick) inserted in center comes out clean.
6. Let Cool.
